THE CANAAN CENTER FOR ORGANIC RESEARCH & EXTENSION
ABOUT CORE

“The beauty of the land of Palestine stems from its rich, fertile, and diverse agriculture, and this has been for thousands of years, a social culture of farming that creatively lived with the land producing the best treasures out of the soil. Palestinian farmers lived in harmony with this ecosystem for thousands of years and continue to honor these traditions to this day” Founder, Nasser Abufarha.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Located in the rich agricultural region of Jenin, the Center will help revive the authentic traditions of organic farming in Palestine while enriching them with modern organic farming knowledge from the organic/ecological/sustainability movement. The Center will be another vehicle for empowering Palestinian farming communities to sustain their livelihood and afford them a space in modern society.

The main researchers will be Palestinian farmers, aided by professional researchers and guided by established scholars and experts in the fields. The center will also serve as a research field for international scholars who may wish to pursue study agendas in Palestine.

CORE works with its partners to increase the livelihoods of the Palestinian people, particularly vulnerable farmers, by providing salient research and extension services to increase yields to high-value niche local and international markets. In addition we aim to promote and spread sustainable farming practices and organic principles to match the potential of farmers and the land with the potential of value chains to eradicate rural poverty within the occupied Palestinian territory. Our projects aim to protect livelihoods from crop failure and reducing disaster losses; considering positive traditional practices, climate and environment and market interest.

Promoting sustainable agriculture with a special focus on organic farming in Palestine through research, extension and cooperation.
